Personalized Water Treatment Solutions
As Bellevue’s leading water treatment company, we recommend point-of-entry (POE) water purifiers. Point-of-use systems, such as countertop filters, are cheaper initially but limited. A POE water purifier will have a better long-term value and won’t restrict you to a single faucet or refrigerator.
When choosing a POE system, the flow rate, measured in gallons per minute (GPM), is important. Sizing whole-home water treatment can be tricky. Our plumbers will help you. One factor is household size. Another is how many fixtures and appliances you’ll need to run simultaneously. A flow rate that is too low will cause low water pressure during periods of peak usage.
The typical water purification system has three stages: prefiltration, activated carbon filtration, and particulate filtration. The prefilter traps the largest particles, protecting the system and the more valuable filter media. The activated carbon absorbs unpleasant tastes, smells, chemicals, and gases. If the filtration is fine enough, the particulate filter removes sediment, silt, rust, and biologicals.
Many homeowners opt for a fourth stage: ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This stage gives off UV-C, a germicidal light that neutralizes bacteria, viruses, microbes, and other contaminants in the water.
Alternatively, you can use a reverse osmosis (RO) system. It will eliminate all foreign matter, including hardness, from the water. However, there are some downsides. RO systems are more expensive than the typical POE water purifier. They also remove the good minerals, which requires you to install and maintain a remineralization filter.
